6th Annual Oakhurst Elementary School Read-A-Thon

 Why a Read-A-Thon? 

The Read-A-Thon will encourage our children to excel in reading while raising funds for enriching Field Experiences and other programs and materials for Oakhurst. During the week of the Read-A-Thon, students will develop and enhance reading skills and new reading habits. We hope that many children will sustain this frequency of reading throughout the rest of the school year and beyond.

Step 1: Gather Reading Sponsors, January 19-26  

Use the attached Sponsor Sheet to sign up family and friends as sponsors for your child. Talk to your neighbors, and don’t forget to call out-of- town grandparents! This is the time to talk to your child about the Read- A-Thon, help them set a goal, and check out extra books from the library.

Step 2: Read! Read! Read!, January 26-February 2    

Encourage your child to read as much as they can! Read aloud to your child, or take turns reading a book. Any reading done outside of the classroom counts! Return Reading Logs to school on Mon., Wed., & Fri. for tallying your child’s time in the Reading Log. Your child must complete all reading by 8 a.m. on Friday, February 2 for the final tally.

Step 3: Collect Sponsors’ Money, February 2-9
Send the money to school in the special envelope provided. Please submit all cash and/or checks (payable to “Oakhurst PTA”) at the same time, along with your Sponsor Sheet. Payments can also be made via PayPal.

PLEASE READ TO INSURE THAT YOUR CHILD IS CREDITED PROPERLY

1) As you complete your transaction in PayPal, please look for the tiny blue link on the second payment page where you need to add the Name, Grade and Teacher of child you are sponsoring. This is important information needed for tracking your donation and giving the student credit.

2) PayPal will not calculate the per-minute pledge totals. You must obtain from the student the number of minutes the student read and calculate your total pledge BEFORE submitting payment to PayPal.
